Pajot Hills is a former stomping ground for Drops having raced there in 2016. Like last year, the days’ racing in Belgium included cobbled sections, punchy climbs like the Muur van Geraardsbergen and the Bosberg, a good warm up for the Tour of Flanders.
Some of the team were recovering from existing issues. Suzy Zorzi who was still trying to get over an illness, performed very well under the circumstances. Meanwhile Annie Simpson seemed past her knee problems to also finish in the front group.
After making the front group following a the Muur van Geraardsbergen and pushing on to the front of the race in the finale, Lizzie Holden got closest and finished the day in a respectable 27th place.
“I’m pretty happy with how I rode,” said Lizzie.
“It was my first time racing up the Muur but in a strange way, I enjoyed it. I hit the climb in a good position and I ended up in the front group with Susy and Abby-Mae after the Muur had caused splits.
“The pace of the race slowed and some of the groups came back together but in the final 20km I felt like I had good legs and was in a position to follow some moves. It felt really good to be in the front of the race. Unfortunately, none of them stuck and I rolled into the finish in the front group. A good day out.”
